Walking in Dorset

Many of the customers who stay at our Holiday Park use them as a base to take advantage of the great Dorset walks nearby. There is such a large selection of walks in Dorset that we thought we would help out by telling you about our favourites below.

 

Purbeck Plod, Swanage

Distance: 25 miles

Difficult, a strenuous and long distance walk.

A strenuous circular route from the sea front in Swanage – great views along the coast going west and panoramic views of the valley down to Swanage and across to Poole Harbour on the way back to Swanage.

Start – Swanage Sea Front | Finish – Swanage Sea Front.

Studland Walk, Studland

Distance: 2 miles

Easy, generally flat and easy, but near the start there is a short section where the path surface is uneven.

This walk gives your fantastic views out to the Isle of white from the spectacular Jurassic Coast.

Abbotsbury Hill Fort, Weymouth

Distance: 5 miles

Moderate/Difficult, It is generally flat with one long climb.

This walk is stooped in history, including the Iron Age fortification- Abbotsbury Hill Fortification, St Catherine’s Hill as well as famous attractions such as Abbotsbury Swannery.

Burton Bradstock, Bridport

Easy/Moderate, An easy going walk with spectacular cliff top views.

A walk full of fantastic views along the Jurassic Coast as well as the history of Lyme Regis famous16th Century harbour defence.

Castle and Beach, Weymouth

Moderate, a generally flat walk with some steep climbs.

This walks takes in the scenic views of the Dorset coast as well as the Historical feature of Abbotsbury Castle.

Cerne Park, Dorchester

Moderate, fairly flat paths however some steep slopes.

A walk what takes you through the heart of the Dorchester countryside, with excellent views of the Sydling valley and the downlands can be seen from the Ridgeway.

Gardens and Alum Chine, Bournemouth

Easy, a short a flat walk round the town.

This walk takes you through the attractive gardens, along the River Bournes, along the Promenade and to the pier.

Lyme Regis to Charmouth, Lyme Regis

Easy/Moderate, most of the walk is along pavements but with some steep and slippy areas.

A pleasant walk with excellent views over Lyme Regis and also takes you through some wooded areas.

Morcombelake Village, Bridport

A very pleasant countryside walk between Morcombelake and Golden Cap, taking in the fantastic views of the countryside.
